Nyungne is the meditation on the Buddha “Loving Eyes with 1000 Arms”. He is the expression of the compassion of all Buddha´s. His 1000 arms are symbolising the 1000 Buddhas which are starting a Dharma period on our earth. Through the practice we are building up a huge powerfield of enlightened activity for the benefit of all beings. During the mantra-phase we are spreading out the blessing to all beings. And all the world is becoming the Pure Land. Nyungne is a very strong purification practice, where we get rid off a lot of old stuff from our store consciousness, which hinders to experience our Buddha-potential. We build up a great amount of good impressions and a lot of merit, what is useful on our way towards enlightenment. Nyungne is a strict retreat, where we concentrate on the practice. All participants stay in the place and also sleep there. We follow certain rules like not smoking cigarettes and not drinking alcohol, eating only vegetarian, and which also includes not to eat, to drink and to speak on the second day of the retreat. There can be made exceptions for participants, if it is necessary, for example in the case of health reasons! -Don´t wory, the most important fact is the motivation and the wish to meditate!

About the transmission

Renate Scholz is a close disciple of Lama Ole since 1980. She is an international Diamondway teacher since 1993and is teaching in many countries around the world.

She lives in Munich, working as a schoolteacher. She has many activities: in the Buddhist centre, writing books, painting, member of the Buddhist teacher association.

Renate Scholz has got the initiation on the Buddha 1000armed Loving Eyes with Chechu Rinpoche in 1981 in Kathmandu on a pilgrimage with Lama Ole and Hannah. She has got the transmission to guide the retreat during a period of 100time Nyungnes 1989 in Montchardon, that´s the place of Lama Toensang in France.

General questions / answers

What about new people? Can they come to the Nyungne retreat?

Everyone can take part in the retreat. Fact is: We meditate about 10 hours per day and we are doing an incredible amount of mantras. If you like this, you are welcome! You know this from the Phowa: it is very useful to have some “old dogs” in the company!

What to do, if someone doesn´t have time for the whole Retreat?

It is possible to make a half Nyungne, this means to take part during the first day and on top in the first session of the second day (until 11.00).

What about, when you cannot do the fastening on the second day?

Sometimes people ask for easier conditions. It is possible to make a softer variation. It is called Nene and also very good.

Time-table

Friday at 20:00 - public Lecture

Basic explanations about meditation in the Diamondway in general and for the retreat. Everyone can listen to these explanations. After the explanations we prepare the altar and the tormas for the retreat.

Sunday - Second full day

We start at 6.00 with the first meditation. Each session takes about 3 hours. That´s the special Nyungne–day, where we don´t eat, drink and speak. We are just focussing on the meditation. In the breaks we can rest, read books, write something, give massage, or go for a walk, do something relaxing.

Monday - Morning

Very early we have a last session, so that people can leave to go to work. In the end of the retreat there is a good, nice big breakfast, not vegetarian.

It is not necessary, but very smart to have some time for relaxation, if you can arrange this with your work. Best would be you could have a free day after this intensive retreat!
